Outwell Tents 2015 – 5 New Developments

At the back end of last year’s camping season we were kindly invited by our friends at OASE outdoors, the creators of the Outwell tent brand, to visit their headquarters and have a look at the new range of family tents for 2015.

We were under the promise to not give away too much away too soon of what was new for the upcoming season. Since then, the new range of Outwell tents for 2015 has been announced, so here’s a quick guide to five of the newest innovations for the upcoming season.

1) Brand new Outwell Air Collection

Easy to pitch, plenty of room and undoubted quality. What’s there not to like?

Following the huge success of inflatable tents over the past few years thanks to Vango’s Airbeam range and the Outwell Smart Air Collection, Outwell have introduced the brand new Air range that makes camping even more accessible and inflatable tents more affordable.

The Air range features the Outwell Air Stability System: a simplified inflation system whereby all the tents in this range have individual tubes that are inflated separately. This is in contrast to the ‘all in one’ approach of the Smart Air Collection; a two way pump with pressure gauge is included with all tents.

Features & Tech Spec

  • Flysheet: Outtex® 5000 (75D 100% polyester taffeta) with taped seams
  • Inner tent: Breathable 100% polyester
  • Floor: Double-coated 100% polyethylene, 10,000 mm hydrostatic head
  • Groundsheet: Sealed Ground System
  • Carpets, Footprints and Awnings available

There are all the usual great features you’ll find on an outwell tent including (but not limited to) pre attached luminous guylines, fully sewn in groundsheet, large windows with curtains and a large front door opening that can be toggled to take advantage of the wonderful British weather!

The idea of the Air Collection is inflatable tents at an attractive price, while maintaining Outwell’s standards for high quality and great features. Typically inflatable tent technology has been the preserve of those with lots of money; this collection is a little more affordable. These aren’t cheap tents, as such, but they will allow campers to appreciate the ease and convenience of inflatable tent camping at a more affordable price.

2) Inflatable Caravan Awnings

Never one to rest on their laurels, Outwell have embarked upon a major innovation in caravan awnings for the 2015 camping season. The Smart Air Awning Collection offers an appealing level of comfort and convenience unmatched by traditional caravan awnings.

These inflatable tent awnings use a single inflatable tube with the Outwell One-Go Inflation to guarantee fast, secure pitching with all the features and build quality expected of Outwell tents. Ideal as a dining area, living space or for storage.

3) Extended Canopy System

A new innovation as part of the popular Deluxe Collection, the Extended Canopy System builds on the concept of the tent extension. It is easy to use and versatile too; the canopy can be pitched to offer additional shade, shelter and privacy in four different configurations.

The extended canopy system is part of the front entrance of the tent. It is zipped into the inside facing part of the door. In order to reveal the canopy, it must be unzipped at the point of attachment to the inside of the front door. This creates a canopy that is twice as long as the door. Secure it using guylines and canopy poles as shown in the image above.

This canopy system is available on all tents in the Deluxe Collection and is denoted in the name of the tent. For example, Birdland 4E.

4) New Tent Carpets

Tent carpets have also received a significant overhaul for 2015 with the introduction of several new types to go with particular tent collections. Alongside the traditional flat woven carpet, we have new 3-layer insulate carpets, fleece carpets, and electric carpets. All of which are an enhancement on the warmth and comfort available from the standard tent carpet.

These carpets are custom made to fit into the tent living area and provide extra comfort and insulation. An optional extra, but one that has become increasingly popular.

To go alongside the traditional ‘flat woven’ tent carpet, there are three new additions:

3-layer insulate carpet

These new padded carpets bring new levels of comfort to tent carpets. Comfort is ensured and a variety of different sizes means they will fit most tents. A generous layer of insulation sandwiched between a waterproof base and soft fleece surface to offer a padded feel plus excellent practicality.

The fleece carpet offers superb comfort and insulation through fleece lined upper, creating a soft feel under foot.

Electrical carpet

This exciting new addition is sure to please those who feel the cold in the night. Heating up to 40oc, the new electric carpets are made in standard medium and large sizes, which will cover most of the living area of most tents. Ideal to warm the living area, bedroom, or maybe even use as an electric blanket.

Not all carpet types are available for all tents. Check the individual tent listings to see which carpet is compatible for which tent.

5) Premium Collection: New Colourway

The successful Premium Collection has undergone a facelift for the upcoming camping season and now features a stylish new Silver/Grey colourway, giving the range a touch of classic and uniqueness among other tent ranges.

The Premium Collection also has great Outwell features including a completely waterproof flysheet with 6000mm hydrostatic head, panorama front for excellent views of your surroundings, night sky ceilings in the inner tents to supplement a good night’s sleep by limiting internal light levels, luminous guylines and much more.

  • Flysheet: Outtex® 6000 (75D 100% polyester taffeta) with taped seams
  • Inner tent: Breathable 100% polyester
  • Floor: Double-coated 100% polyethylene, 10,000 mm hydrostatic head
  • Poles: Steel

These are five of many new features in tents and camping accessories for the upcoming season. We’re looking forward to bring the latest innovations in tents and camping equipment from Outwell to the market this summer.
