Salewa Mountain Trainer Review

Salewa are, I think, better known in Europe than in the UK having previously really only come across them in the Alps, the Tatras and the Pyrenees. On the basis of trying these shoes however they will soon be equally well known and loved here as well.

The card describes them as Alpine Fit and 100% blister free which I can certainly vouch for from the outset.

These shoes are lightweight but with a sturdy Vibram sole and comes with two pairs of insoles which you can use in any combination to find your most comfortable fit, and is known as their 3F fitting.

The first outing a few weeks ago was 10 hours along the North Devon coast path, a lot of steep ascent and descent and although predominately dry it was muddy in places. Grip in all situations was impressive and not a sign of a blister at the end of the day.

Next was a week on the Wales Coast Path in Pembrokeshire and Ceredigion, long walking days every day including even steeper descents and ascents some over very sharp rock surfaces and again the grip was more than impressive, far better than other approach shoes I have owned in the past.

All in all a thoroughly good shoe, robust, hard wearing and extremely comfortable over long days with a full pack. I would recommend these to anybody and have been so impressed myself that I have already purchased a pair of Salewa boots with which I am so far equally impressed.
