The most influential outdoor gear of all time

There’s a really informative, deeply researched article on outsideonline at the moment that outlines what is, in their opinion, the top 100 or so most influential pieces of outdoor gear ever.

It’s a compelling read that stretches it’s reach way back to 860 BC, where it documents anything from the first instance of the personal floatation device (apparently used by enemies of the Assyrians who swam the river Euphrates with the support of inflated goat’s skin) to the development of Vibram soles, the Leatherman multi tool and the invention of Spandex!

Now that I’ve give a few of them away for you, you’d better go and have a read of said article.

Oh, did you know the term ‘spork’ was first coined in 1909?
